Vanguard Laser/Laser Radial/Laser 4.7
The Laser is designed for simplicity. The hull shape, blades, and rig combine to create the ultimate sailing machine. Every Laser in the world is identical, and strict class rules ensure that remains true. The Laser is a challenging boat that rewards athleticism, subtle steering, and trimming techniques as well as tactical excellence. The lessons the Laser teaches you will translate to virtually any boat you sail. Sailing a Laser is an investment in skills that will last you a lifetime. Laser sailors are a community of great people who enjoy racing sailboats for the camaraderie as well as the cometition. Laser racing is nothing less than one-design competition in its purest form. The Laser boasts a long list of veterans who are Olympic Medalists, America's Cup Helmsman, and Collegiate All-Americans. Laser racing gives you the opportunity to race against these sailors at the national level and emphasizes the skills necessary for anyone who aspires to reach this level. It's no wonder the International Sailing Federation awarded the Laser Olympic status!
The North American Regional office of the International Laser Class provides quality racing for sailors at the local and regional levels as well. There are more than 1000 Laser events in North America every year. The class magazine, the Laser Sailor, is the best class association publication availible. It will keep you informed on future events, scores from past events, and helpful racing tips. The class also has a "Masters" circuit for sailors over the age of thirty-five. The Masters circuit culminates at the Laser Masters World Championship that is held annually. The Laser Masters racing circuit is the largest and most heavily attended master racing group of any one-design class in the world.
In case you haven't already heard, in 2001 the International Laser Class Association approved new upgrades to the Laser rigging. Now legal is a 15:1 cascading mechanical vang, a 10:1 cascading mechanical cunningham, and a 5:1 cascading mechanical outhaul. These upgrades have significantly advanced the caliber of racing in the Laser Class. All of our new Lasers come standard with these upgrades, so you don't have to worry about your boat being "behind the times". We have both new boats and upgrade kits availible.
